The risk of stroke, myocardial infarction and other cardiovascular problems will be escalated due to the continuous disruption of the episode. It can cause narcolepsy (sudden maturity of consciousness) and excessive sleepiness of the day.
The blockages or barriers affecting OSA can be caused by large tonsils (especially in children) and adenoids, obesity, weak muscles or irregular physical structure (major tongue or owl or narrow airways, etc.).
The other causes that contribute to obstructive sleep apnea may be impaired sleep position, asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), allergies and excessive stress.
Central sleep apnea (CSA) is a not so common form. It usually occurs when the respiratory tension ends at the moment while communication with the brain is disturbed. Other than similar symptoms like obstructive sleep apnea, there are also symptoms such as numbness in body parts, changes in your voice, body weakness and swallowing difficulty.
CSA has symptoms similar to obstructive sleep apnea, such as lack of attention, heart disease, high blood pressure, irritability and excessive sleepiness today. You will also suffer from an after-effect called "Ondine's curse", which makes you still having difficulty breathing easily when you sleep.
CSA sufferers who live over the ocean or have heart attacks or brain damage can even suffer the apnea episode while they are awake.
